the event is made possible by the generous support

with a special musical performance by the Capital Area Chorale, under the direction
of Dr. William J. Weisser, at 7:30. And the live auction opens with a memorial
to those we have lost to HIV/AIDS presented by Mr. David Rice.
The collection
this year promises once again to be of the highest
caliber which speaks to the extraordinary talent
of our art community and its commitment to this auction
and this cause," stated Dan Williams, 2003 Works
of Heart Committee Chair. "Our marketing efforts
are positioning Works of Heart not only as the premiere
charity art event in the Triangle, but throughout
Eastern North Carolina."
As Works of Heart celebrates 13 years of showcasing the Triangle's finest artists
and raising additional funds and awareness for the programs of the Alliance
of AIDS Services - Carolina, we extend our sincere gratitude to all those who
have helped make the event possible. The 2002 Works of Heart broke all previous
records with $62,425 in art sales and total revenues of $112,630. With your
continued support, Works of Heart will set records in 2003, as well.
Works of Heart is an all-volunteer art auction generating funds for the Alliance
of AIDS Services - Carolina. (AAS-C). AAS-C's programs provide practical care
for men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS in the Triangle, as well as
education, prevention, and faith-based programs for the Triangle Community
at large. The fight against HIV/AIDS is by no means over. While there has been
a great deal of publicity recently about proposed funding for confronting the
epidemic in third world countries, the statistics remind us that much work
remains to be done here at home. In the first six months of 2003, there have
been 1,111 reports of HIV disease and another 648 reports of AIDS in North
Carolina. These numbers compare with 1692 reports of HIV disease in all of
2002 and another 1,014 cases of AIDS. It is estimated that more than 15,207
of our fellow North Carolinians live with HIV/AIDS every day. Established 1991
